How To Find Free Time for Yourself During a Busy Day

If you’re a regular person existing in the world today, you’re likely pretty busy. It can be difficult to juggle everything from family, friends, food, work, kids, school, etc., and finding any time for yourself can be difficult. It becomes a daily struggle, and you inevitably end up neglecting your own needs. Read on to learn how to find free time for yourself during a busy day.

Learn To Say No

One of the hardest things you’ll need to do to help you get some free time is to learn to say no. Your day may be so busy because you’ve become accustomed to going with the flow and saying yes to everything. You’ve made dinner plans with friends one night, a movie date another night, visiting the parents this weekend, etc., and you can say no to all of these things. You shouldn’t say no to everything, but take inventory of what you’re doing, what you like, and what you don’t want to do. Figuring this out and learning to say no are the first steps to finding time for yourself throughout the day.

Find Space To Be Alone

Go somewhere you can be alone. Finding the time and space to do so isn’t easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding. If you transform your garage into a living space, there will always be a little nook you can go to where you can exist with yourself. Once you’re in your own space, you can do whatever you want, whether that’s planning and scheduling out the rest of your week, watching TV, taking a nap, or anything else. The biggest barrier for people finding free time is that there’s nowhere for them to escape the chaotic nature of their day-to-day. Spaces like a garage, entertainment room, or basement are all great places for you to unwind and spend some time with yourself.

Schedule Time for Yourself

Another way to find time for yourself is to put it in your schedule in advance. Typically, you’ll follow a routine every day of the week, and it’s hard to find that wiggle room for yourself. You may have to force it in there, but soon it will be a part of the routine that everyone follows. For example, when you get home from work or after dinner, have a 30-minute or hour-long alone time session. You can do whatever you want since it’s your time. Some days you will need it, and other days, you may decide to skip it and spend time doing something else. Do what feels right at the moment.

During your busy day, take these steps to find some free time for yourself, and you can enter a new day with a refreshed sense of purpose and self. It’s important to find that balance and make it work, even if things aren’t going to plan. Without some free time here and there, you’re going to quickly feel overwhelmed and anxious, and you won’t be able to give your full attention to anything.
